How to filter SPAM with Outlook Express.
Island Internet has configured our mailserver to mark suspected SPAM emails
so that you can deal with them automatically as described below.
If you follow the procedure in this document it will allow you to move all the
email that is marked
as SPAM by our mailserver into a specified SPAM folder on your computer
automatically. This will reduce the clutter in your inbox,
leaving your genuine emails in the inbox. Note that not all messages
that you regard as SPAM will be detected and marked by our mailserver, you
will still need to delete these manually.
The reason behind moving SPAM into a different folder and not just deleting it is that we are only able to make a 'best estimate'
of what is SPAM. So if some genuine email was accidentally marked as SPAM, it would not be deleted and you would be able to retrieve
it from the SPAM folder. Having all the SPAM in the SPAM folder simplifies the process of deleting
it.
1.Run Outlook Express
2.Add a folder for the SPAM to be stored in. Do this by right-clicking on
the folder marked "Local Folders" and selecting New Folder..
3.A new window will appear titled "Create Folder".
4.Select .Local Folders. and then enter .SPAM. as the Folder name. Hit OK
when this is done. A new folder called SPAM will appear under the
"Local Folders".
5.You now need to enter the mail filtering details. Do this by going to Tools > Message Rules > Mail
6.A new window will appear entitled "New Mail Rule". There are some boxes you need to check.
7. Once all of the above is done hit OK and then hit OK again on the next screen and you are finished.
